Can point out just one. Most of them brutal truth moments.
I remember the first time when reading through Jordan Peterson’s book 12 rules for Life and it said, “The purpose of life is finding the largest burden that you can bear and bearing it.” It hit me like a ton of bricks. Up until that point, I had always thought the goal was to make life as easy as possible—to avoid struggle, to minimize discomfort. But when I really sat with his words, I realized how wrong that mindset was.
Peterson’s words changed the way I viewed hardship. Instead of asking, “How can I make this easier?” I started asking, “How can I be strong enough to carry this?” And that shift in perspective changed everything.
“If you gaze into the abyss long enough, you see the light not the darkness”
With the follow up words:
“If all you still see is the abyss, you haven’t looked long enough”
I have stared a type of hell in its face. I never thought I’d see it the way I did… I thought it would never get to ME, especially not in the way it did.
Seeing Jordan talk about coming back from hell, walking the path through it etc. was inspirational, knowing that I can get out and that that journey in itself will be worth walking.
It’s a beautiful universal concept and in regards to myself specifically, I’m glad this specific journey is nearing its end.
As a mother of 3 boys, the most powerful quote for me as raising them was “a boy should become a monster, but then he should be able to control it”.
That’s exactly what I want for my boys and the future husband of my daughter to be in the future.
Adopt responsibility for your own well-being, try to put your family together, try to serve your community, try to seek for eternal truth… That’s the sort of thing that can ground you in your life, enough so that you can withstand the difficulty of life.
Compare yourself to who you were yesterday, not to who someone else is today.
Compare yourself to who you were yesterday, not to who someone else is today.
Tell the Truth or at Least Don’t Lie
Everybody has talent, but ability takes hard work.
“Quit saving the bloody planet. Attend to some souls, that’s what you’re supposed to do”
This statement sums up dr. Peterson`s mission perfectly. And his character.
The following quote always really stuck with me, because it reminds me that working hard has it’s own goal, there is a purpose behind it: “The purpose of life is to find a mode of being that is so meaningful that the fact that life is suffering is irrelevant”. It comes from his absolutely wonderful book Maps of Meaning. This idea encourages us to strive for something greater than ourselves, to find fulfillment and resilience in the face of adversity.

“The purpose of life is finding the largest burden that you can bear and bearing it.”
One of my favorite moments with Dr. Jordan B. Peterson was during his lecture on personal responsibility and the importance of telling the truth. He articulated that “truth is the cornerstone of a meaningful life,” which resonated deeply with me. The way he explains that taking responsibility for our lives and striving to live authentically is not just about personal improvement, but also about contributing positively to society, really struck a chord.
His discussion about the balance between order and chaos, and how we must confront the chaos inside us to find our authentic selves, has provided me with a framework to face challenges in my own life. His ability to weave psychology, philosophy, and practical advice into his talks is inspiring, and it encourages me to reflect on my own values and actions. This moment, among many, has motivated me to seek truth and aim for the highest good in my own journey.
“You cannot protect your children. You can only make them strong. And then they will be able to protect themselves.” Really stuck with me because it reminds me of my parents
“Compare yourself to who you were yesterday, not to who someone else is today.”
It’s a great reminder to focus on personal growth rather than external comparisons. Progress is about becoming a better version of yourself, not trying to measure up to someone else’s journey.
