“ I don’t tell people, ‘You’re okay the way that you are.’ That’s not the right story. The right story is, ‘You’re way less than you could be.’ “
“You cannot be protected from the things that frighten you and hurt you, but if you identify with the part of your being that is responsible for transformation, then you are always the equal or more than the equal of the things that frighten you.”
My favourite moment from Jordan is actually an interaction of his with a fellow fan that I saw in the documentary about Jordan Peterson called “The Rise of Jordan Peterson”. This fan was almost my age and had similar issues as I did and when he came up to Jordan for a photograph with him and an autograph in his old and used copy of 12 Rules for Life he was lost for words and with shinny eyes for seeing him in the flesh. The person that perhaps was their with him in the darkest of places that so many of us go through as young boys and that were lifted out of them by listening to Jordans’ lessons.
One of Jordan Peterson’s most powerful quotes is:
“If you fulfill your obligations every day, you don’t need to worry about the future.”
It captures his philosophy of personal responsibility and how disciplined daily actions can shape a meaningful life.
This phrase is very powerful it changed the way I see many things:
Everyone says, ‘Well, you should be harmless, virtuous, you shouldn’t do anyone any harm, you should sheath your competitive instinct. You shouldn’t try to win. You don’t want to be too aggressive. You don’t want to be too assertive.’
No.WRONG. You should be a monster, an absolute monster, and then you should learn how to control it.
To learn is to die voluntarily and be born again, in great ways and small.
When you have something to say, silence is a lie.”
Here:
“In order to be able to think, you have to risk being offensive.”
Rule 8: “Tell the Truth — or, at Least, Don’t Lie.”
During a hard time for me I heard this quote: “In order to be able to think, you have to risk being offensive. You have to risk being wrong. You have to risk everything that you hold dear, your identity, your worldview, your beliefs—because that’s how you move forward.”
This quote touches on the struggle of confronting our deepest fears, doubts, and the very essence of who we are. In dark times, it’s often a process of shedding old patterns and beliefs to embrace something new, something that might feel unsettling but is necessary for transformation. It reminds us that growth often comes from being willing to challenge what feels most secure, facing the unknown, and trusting that through that, we find new strength. Beautiful
Any interview that Dr. Jordan gave to the JR Podcast. I feel those interviews are real as it gets.
You are important to other people as well as to yourself. You have a vital role to play in the unfolding destiny of the world. You are therefore morally obligated to care for yourself. You should care for, help, and be kind to yourself in the same way that you would care for, help, and be kind to someone you and value.68You are importantlove to other people as well as to yourself. “The purpose of life is finding the largest burden that you can bear and bearing it.”
This statement captures his philosophy on responsibility, meaning, and resilience. He often emphasizes that meaning in life is found through voluntarily taking on responsibility rather than seeking happiness directly.
